Our work covers claims against accountants, lawyers, architects, engineers, healthcare providers, insurance agents, and real estate professionals. We provide coverage analysis, advise insurers on the merits of underlying malpractice claims, develop strategies for efficient resolution, and serve as lead counsel in coverage and bad faith litigation. In addition to earning litigation victories before and at trial, we have secured appellate precedent on multiple issues that recur across professional lines policies: prior knowledge conditions, innocent insured provisions, the scope of “professional services,” and the insurer’s right to control the defense.

Select Representative Matters
Secured summary judgment for a professional liability insurer, holding that a special master investigation into the insured law firm’s fee request was not a claim arising from services provided “for others.” In a first-impression ruling, the court also found no independent duty to pay claim expenses absent covered damages. Thornton Law Firm LLP v. Continental Cas. Co., 2020 CH 06970 (Ill. Cir. Ct., 2022).
Won summary judgment in Virginia federal court on the grounds that three prior knowledge exclusions barred coverage under architects and engineers professional liability policy. ChemTreat, Inc. v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyd’s of London, 19-cv-00063 (E.D. Va., 2020).
Obtained favorable summary judgment ruling holding that a lawsuit arising out of three alleged errors constituted a single “claim” under consecutive architects and engineers policies. Nova Southeastern Univ., Inc. v. Continental Cas. Co., 18-CIV-61842-RAR (S.D. Fla., 2019).
