Anna Schaffner represents insurers in disputes involving directors and officers, professional liability, and fiduciary liability policies. She advises insurers on exposures presented by securities and derivative litigation, government investigations, SPAC transactions, ERISA matters, and bankruptcy proceedings. She has secured significant victories for insurers in state and federal courts nationwide, including precedent-setting appellate decisions.
Anna has successfully represented insurers at every stage of litigation, obtaining favorable rulings on motions to dismiss, summary judgment, and appeal. Most recently, she secured a Fourth Circuit victory overturning a judgment that would have allowed a U.S. sportswear giant to access an additional $100 million D&O insurance tower for related government investigations and securities litigation.
Anna brings the same strategic focus to mediation that she brings to the courtroom. She negotiates complex settlements in the United States and abroad, including coverage workouts and pass-through derivative structures. Combining strong advocacy with practical business judgment, Anna understands when to litigate, when to negotiate, and when to pursue commercially sensible solutions.
